Climate Impact of Carbon Crediting Projects Is Substantially Overestimated

A new meta-study published in Nature Communications has revealed that emission reductions from climate mitigation projects are significantly lower than claimed. Benedict Probst, Head of the Net Zero Lab at the Institute, and coauthors systematically reviewed  more than 60 empirical studies, uncovering substantial quality issues with carbon credits.

Automation of Contracting Simplified by UN Model Law

The United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL) has adopted a Model Law that is intended to standardize and facilitate the formation and performance of automated contracts online. As a member of the E-Commerce Working Group, Jörg Hoffmann, a researcher at the Institute, participated in several discussion rounds on the drafting of the Model Law.

Open Access is Shaping Scientific Communication

Open access (OA) represents a transformative shift in scientific publishing, aiming to ensure unrestricted access to taxpayer-funded research and data. In a new study published in Science, Frank Mueller-Langer, Affiliated Research Fellow at the Institute and Professor at the University of the Bundeswehr Munich, and Mark McCabe, Professor at the SKEMA Business School, make a significant contribution to the discourse on OA by analyzing the economic, political, and institutional dynamics shaping the transformation of scholarly publishing.

The Program Is Available Now! − RISE7 Workshop

On 17 and 18 December 2024, the Institute will host the seventh “Research in Innovation, Science and Entrepreneurship Workshop” from young researchers for young researchers. Participants can expect exciting topics and a stimulating exchange of ideas. Alexander Oettl, Professor at the Scheller College of Business, Georgia Tech, will give the keynote speech on “Building Tomorrow's Science: The Interplay of Talent, Geography, an AI”.

Florence Conference on IP, Competition and Innovation

On 3 and 4 October, the Conference on Intellectual Property, Competition and Innovation was held in Florence. The conference, jointly organized by the European University Institute and the Max Planck Institute for Innovation and Competition, presented a selection of previously unpublished papers by lawyers and economists on a wide range of topics at the intersection of intellectual property and competition law.

Relocation of the Institute and New Building Site

Due to space constraints, the Max Planck Institute for Innovation and Competition has to move to a new building. The transfer to the new location is planned for the first quarter of 2025.
